I got a white IKEA desk for my work and study. Since I wanted to make it a Pinteresty aesthetic, I added some décor items as well as functional, aesthetic storage. I did post about it on Instagram and got a few comments and messages asking for the details. This entire article is about the idea I had behind setting up my desk and doing up my room. A separate blog post on creating my reading nook is in the making.
I’ve added links to the places I’ve sourced various items from in this article. But almost everything is also linked in my Amazon storefront and Wishlink store.
My white IKEA desk
I wanted a table which was longer than 120 cm in length. My initial choice was IKEA’s LAGKAPTEN / ALEX desk. Due to a lack of the table’s availability in white, I finally bought IKEA’s LAGKAPTEN / SPÄND table. I got the one with storage on one side, but the same table is available without storage as well.

Another thing I liked about the table is that there is a storage space for wires. This neatly hides the cables and wires, which may have otherwise ruined the aesthetic. In the top shelf, I store some of art supplies and tools. The bottom shelf holds my favourite reads and TBR, which is convenient since it close to my reading nook.
I attached some LED strip lights, to the back of the table for a more aesthetic look. BTW, I’ve had these lights for almost 3 years, and it is very sturdy and long lasting. The price wasn’t too high either, so it was a great buy!
The dimensions are 140 x 60 cm and I’ve attached a reference image below which shows the exact dimensions.
Answering some FAQs about the white IKEA table
- Material : Particleboard table top and steel legs and storage layer (engineered wood)
- Cost : ~Rs 6,800. (If you are looking for a less expensive white table option, here is one from Amazon for ~ Rs 2,500.)
- Where I got it from : IKEA’s website (few items are available on Amazon as well)
- Delivery charge : IKEA charged a delivery fee of around Rs 300.
IKEA desktop décor and storage
For the items on the desk itself, I wanted a white/ transparent look mostly, but also a few pastel tones here and there. Below is a close up picture of how I did up the desk.
I used these transparent vertical pen stands to store my highlighters and brush pens. You can get the same pen stands in colours as well.
The mini bear wicker basket was a gift from my sister from a trip we took to Wayanad (Kerala), but here is something similar I found online.
I kind of toyed around with the arrangement on my desk and put in this 3-wick candle from Bath & Body Works. I also added this TJABBIG wicker basket from IKEA with all my extra annotation stationery, like flags, sticky notes and pens.
I used transparent plastic dessert cups to store colourful things, like small sticky notes, colour pencils, etc. so that it would bring out the colour more. We got it from a local store near us years ago, so I couldn’t find the exact one online but here is the closest I could find.
My 2024 planner is from Simbaa Lifestyle by Mridul Sharma and my blue headphones are the Boat Rockerz 450.
My white IKEA RÅSKOG cart
My table did not have too much storage capacity, so I bought an IKEA trolley/ cart. I got it from IKEA’s website, but it is available on Amazon as well.
Even though the purpose of the cart was entirely functional for storage purposes, I definitely wanted it to look visually pleasing, so I went to Pinterest for inspiration. The cart has 3 trays, as you can see.
In the bottom tray, I have some cleaning supplies, some of my shop’s stationery supplies and some miscellaneous items like my tomato timer, a few candles, scissors, medicines and stuff. Most of the things have been organized using IKEA’s NOJIG organizers, both the long organizer and the short organizer, which are very affordable (Amazon link – long/ short).
The middle tray is filled with all of my journaling supplies (washi tapes, stickers, sticky notes) and my used planners and journals. I have a Youtube video on my entire stationery/ journaling supplies collection, with all links mentioned in the description.
On the top most tray, I kept a pastel crate in which I store some of the stationery I use on a daily basis (flash cards, memo note pads, sticky notes, etc.) for easier access. I’ve also added some sketch pens and other small things next to it.
I also bought two SUNNERSTA baskets from IKEA (Amazon link) to hang from the cart.
My white chair
We got a second hand chair, which initially had a normal brown wood tone to it. I had it painted in white to match my white theme.
I also got some white faux fur cushion covers to keep on my chair and in my reading nook for a more cozy look. I added this flower cushion 🌸 for a Pinteresty Kawaii touch.
Switch board
I wanted more life around the switchboards in my room. So I bought this cute switch board decal and added it to the top of board. There is one more switch board I’ve identified on which I want to do something similar, but I want to hand paint it. I will update this blog with a video on my process, if I go through with it.
