DIY Gifts | VIDEO COLLAGE

I know that due to the lock-down most of us have not been able to step
out of the house, except to buy essentials. During this time, maybe you have
had your parents’ or siblings’ birthday to celebrate but you don’t know what to
do about presents?

In my case, my mom just turned 50. And 50 is a milestone! I had been
planning a party with many, many guests, nice food, a fully decorated house,
you get the whole thing. But this lock-down just got in my way.  So, I
decided to DIY some gifts for her with things lying around the house and some
gifts with virtual help of friends.

The first gift I made was a VIDEO COLLAGE. This was a
time-consuming process. I am sharing the process of the entire video making.
1.     Make a list of mom’s
friends (the ones I want in the video) and find their numbers from her
phone.
2.     Call each of them and
request their birthday messages to her in the form of a video. (Psst.. this is
the time-consuming part; please note that I started this process a week before
her birthday)
3.     Decide the order of
the messages in the video. I decided to go with a format which alternated
between messages from friends and family.
4.     Decide the background
music (if you want any). Since some of the message clips I received were really
soft, I felt the music was only getting in the way. So, I decided against
music.
5.     Select a video
editing app and get cracking! (I had to search a bit for an app that was both
free and would handle a lot of videos. I used an app called ‘Video Maker‘ for
the editing.)

You can also use Movavi as an alternative, if you feel Video Maker is not for you. In case you want to learn more tips and tricks on video editing, I would suggest you sign up for a class on Skill Share. If you use this link, you can get a free premium trial on their website for a period of 14 days.

Now, back to my own video making rant.
Finally, the video was in a presentable state. I borrowed my dad’s
projector and displayed the entire video on a wall. Needless to say, my mom
loved it. Oh, and also, I took a reaction video while my mom watched the clip
so that I could send it to the friends and family who sent their videos.

Why don’t you guys try this out and let me know how it went?

Keep creating, keep planning! ðŸ’•
